Springwood – Suburb Profile

Springwood, a north-eastern suburb of Logan City, is 20 km south-east of central Brisbane. The suburb was created in 1969 by severance of the part of Slacks Creek north-east of the Pacific Highway (now Pacific Motorway). ‘Springwood’ was a timbered property with a natural spring in the neighbouring suburb of Rochedale South.

Springwood is a typical late twentieth century suburb with several drive-in shopping centres, State and primary and secondary schools (both 1977), a TAFE and a conservation park. Another State primary school, Chatswood Hills, opened in 1983. A local reservoir near the conservation park has commanding views to the west and south. Three drive-in shopping centres clustered around the intersection of Logan Road and the Pacific Highway are in Springwood: Annandale and Centro Springwood.

With easy access from the Pacific Highway, Springwood is approximately 20km south of Brisbane‘s CBD.

Home buyers can choose from an array of housing including newer architecturally designed homes and older style brick-and-tile dwellings. The predominant housing style in the suburb is late 20th Century brick veneer as well as chamferboard.

Springwood has been developing since the late 1960s and has a range of retail and community facilities including Springwood High School, John Paul College, Springwood Mall and the Arndale Shopping Centre. In addition the suburb is home to various home centres including IKEA and Freedom Furniture, which ensure Saturday mornings are a hive of activity.

The suburb has also benefited from the completion of the South-East Busway project. With no local rail station, the Busway is an excellent public transport system providing residents with easy access to Brisbane.
