Springfield – Suburb Profile

Springfield, a residential suburb on the south-western outskirt of Ipswich City, is 25 km south-west of central Brisbane. It is situated on a former eucalyptus plantation that was on hilly landscape which declines to the Opossum Creek in the west. Further west is Redbank Plains. About eight km south-west of Springfield, amidst tree-covered ranges, is Spring Mountain (355m). Springfield Lakes, formally named in 2000, is immediately south-east of Springfield, next to the Centenary Highway extension. Most houses are from the early 1900s and the interwar years, usually positioned on large sites.

The Ipswich suburb of Springfield is part of Australia’s largest master-planned community, encompassing an area of 7,200 acres and with a current population of more than 7,000.Shopping is found at Booval Fair, north of Glebe Road, and Bremer High School (1959) is in the west of Silkstone.

A wide range of clubs and facilities are now in place in the greater Springfield area, with more planned including the new Waterworx Aquatic Centre and new world class Golfing Range in Brookwater.

Bordered in part by the Centenary Highway, Springfield residents also have easy access to their jobs or recreational pursuits in either the Brisbane CBD (30 minutes) or the heart of the Gold Coast (one hour). As with many master-planned communities, Springfield now offers residents their own primary and secondary schools, as well as retail facilities. The University of Southern Queensland opened its doors in Springfield Lakes in 2006 offering undergraduate and postgraduate course. The Bremer Institute of TAFE also has a campus in the suburb.
