Hillcrest – Suburb Profile

Hillcrest is a residential suburb of Logan City, 22 km south of Central Brisbane. Originally part of Browns Plains, it was formally named in 1987. It is bounded on the north and east by the Parkinson Bushland and Mount Lindesay Highway respectively. The name, possibly given by a real estate developer, was probably inspired by the rise in the south-east of the suburb where there are reservoirs and a water tower (1984).

The water tower precinct has several public facilities: the Logan West community centre, Lutheran and Uniting churches, an ambulance centre and an aquatic centre. There is a small shopping centre in Coronation Road near the Lutheran church. In the north of Hillcrest there are a business park and an industrial area. Primary Schools are found in neighbouring Boronia Heights and Regents Park; secondary education is further away at Park Ridge and Browns Plains.

Developed mostly in the early 1980s, the majority of properties are three-bedroom brick-and-tile homes favoured by families. First home buyers have moved into the area to snap up affordable homes and prices have experienced solid growth.

The athletics park and water park in Regents Park is a local source of entertainment as well as the Greenbank RSL.

Commuters to the city are well catered for with a park n ride facility located near the RSL, with a number of bus services going direct to the city. Brisbane City council have been upgrading such facilities in recent years, with the Hillcrest park n ride earmarked for a further upgrade to allow for more commuter carparks. There is also a major bus interchange located at the shopping centre in Browns Plains.
