Greenslopes – Suburb Profile

Greenslopes occupies a gently undulating parcel of land 6km southeast of the Brisbane CBD. Nestled between the Pacific Highway and the suburbs of Holland Park and Coorparoo, the eastern hills of Greenslopes slope down towards Norman Creek, before the creek snakes northwest to form the suburb’s northern boundary. Norman Creek continues through East Brisbane before joining the Brisbane River.

Greenslopes sits just south of the southern fringe of inner-city Brisbane. Logan Road, which runs south from The ‘Gabba, is the major road running through Greenslopes. Logan Road is also a bustling commercial strip. The cosmopolitan enclave of Stones Corner is similar to a mini-UN, and sits at the northern end of Greenslopes. It is home to a number of Indian, Middle Eastern, African and continental European restaurants. Stones Corner also has a reputation as a bargain hunter’s paradise, and there are plenty of retail outlet stores for you to peruse.

As you move further up Logan Road, you will find more conventional shopping complexes, supermarkets and smaller greengrocers and providores. If you head east or west off Logan Road, you will uncover lovingly-inhabited ‘character homes’. While these Queenslander-style homes dominate the rolling hills of Greenslopes, it is increasingly common to find two- and three-storey apartment buildings or more modern townhouse complexes.

One of Brisbane’s defining pieces of public transport infrastructure, the South East Busway, parallels the Pacific Highway on Greenslopes’ western border. This dedicated busway ensures local residents have frequent, reliable transport directly to the Brisbane CBD and Brisbane’s southern suburbs. This also means Greenslopes is a five minute bus ride from the entertainment precincts of South Bank and Woolloongabba, and the cultural centre in South Brisbane. Westfield’s Garden City shopping complex and Griffith University are easily accessible by catching a bus south on the busway, or you can travel there in your own vehicle down Logan Road or by joining the Pacific Highway at Greenslopes.

One of Brisbane’s major private healthcare providers, Greenslopes Private Hospital, occupies the ridge leading south from Stephen’s Mountain at the southern end of Greenslopes. Greenslopes Primary School is located in the suburb, as are a number of preschools, kindergartens and private vocational colleges.
