Forestdale – Suburb Profile

orestdale is a rural/residential suburb in Logan City, 21 km south of central Brisbane and immediately west of the Greenbank Military Area. It is the westernmost of four suburbs that once comprised the southern part of Browns Plains. It is thought that Forestdale was the name given by a land developer. The name was given by the developers of the estate and the Post Office adopted Forestdale as a mailing address in 1981. Council approved the name change in May 1986 and it was gazetted as a place name in June 1987.

The Oxley Creek runs off the military area into Forestdale and it is enclosed by a linear park and wetlands. Named Greenwood Lakes, that particular part of the suburb pursues a Robin Hood theme, with Longbow Crescent and Robin Court.

Forestdale has a mix of newer and older homes, acreage properties – set amid bushland – with homes likely to be brick and tile or of a more contemporary design. The Boronia Park Shopping Village, the Forestdale Shopping Centre and Middle Road Village Supermarket are the local shopping areas. Residents in this area, however, generally travel to nearby Browns Plains or Park Ridge for their shopping needs and for entertainment. The Grand Plaza in Browns Plains contains a shopping centre, cinemas and a bus exchange with services to Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

There is a Boronia Heights Primary School but families with older children generally send them to Park Ridge High or to private schools further afield. Edwards Park has bike tracks and an outdoor fitness circuit set in a lush creek and park area.
