Flinders View – Suburb Profile

Flinders View, a residential suburb, is four km south-east of central Ipswich and immediately south of Raceview. Until 1995 the boundary between Raceview and Flinders View was the same dividing line as between Ipswich City and Moreton Shire. The shire encouraged urban development along its municipal border, as it did for neighbouring Yamanto. Urbanisation began in Flinders View in the 1980s, to some extent moving ahead of housing growth in Raceview. Local shops were opened in Ripley Road and a drive-in centre, Winston Glades, was opened in 1998 to the west of Ash Street. It has a supermarket and 20 other shops.

Flinders View has two parks with play facilities and a linear park along its western boundary, Deebing Creek. Development has been less in that area, part of which was once the site of the Ipswich sanitary depot off Briggs Road.

Flinders View boasts four popular housing estates; Fairview Rise, Kensington Hills, Jacana Place and Flinders Crest. The affordability of the suburb has led first home buyers and families to move to the area. Flinders View has a number of parks, two of the most popular being Fairview Park and Nugent Park. The Winston Glades shopping centre provides essential services to residents, with more expected to appear as the suburb grows.
