Drewvale – Suburb Profile

Drewvale is a residential suburb on the southern municipal border of Brisbane City. It adjoins Browns Plains in Logan City. Drewvale was formally named in 1971, apparently after an early family in the district.Drewvale is located at the interchange of the Gateway and Logan Motorways. It is the most southern suburb of Brisbane.

The Gateway and Logan Motorways intersect in the middle of Drewvale, dividing it into two residential areas and a third undeveloped space in its north-east. The residential areas are buffered by green spaces forming a corridor between Karawatha Forest and the Parkinson Bushland.

Residents are car-dependent for access to education and shopping. The Logan Motorway leads to Logan Central and the Mount Lindsay Highway (Drewvale’s west boundary) to drive-in centres at Browns Plains. Until the 1990s Drewvale had homes in semi-rural settings, but denser settlement brought the population to 2500 by the mid-2000s.

Drewvale’s census populations have been 113 (1976) and 2580 (2006). The median age of residents in 2006 was 30 years, compared with 37 for Australia. Families with children formed 59% of households compared with 45% for Australia.

Dwellings are 100% detached houses, incomes are 28% higher than the Australian average, and home ownership was a dominant family objective:
